It’s no secret that the Philadelphia Eagles are floundering heading into the playoffs, and San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Javon Hargrave thinks he knows one of the reasons why.

During an appearance on the Third and Long Podcast hosted by Hargrave’s 49ers teammate, fellow defensive lineman Arik Armstead, Hargrave thinks that his former Eagles club may take things too lightly.

“I hate to say … it’s kind of similar because I think we’re very close (in San Francisco) and in Philly, it’s very close, you know, everybody’s pretty tight. But I can say, it’s like — extremely harder practices,” Hargrave said.

He added that the Niners’ practices are “more demanding.”

“Everybody can’t make it over here, that’s for sure,” Hargrave said of the 49ers.

Hargrave also said that Philadelphia’s locker room culture is “more chill, more relaxed.” But as for San Francisco? Hargrave stated that “it’s work. Every day.”

Philly has lost five of its last six games going to the postseason, most recently suffering an embarrassing 27-10 loss to the New York Giants in the regular-season finale.

At one point this season, the Eagles were 10-1, but they finished the year 11-6 and fell out of first place in the NFC East.

Hargrave resided in Philadelphia from 2020 through 2022, making a trip to the Pro Bowl in 2021 after registering 63 tackles and 7.5 sacks. His best Eagles campaign came last year, however, when he racked up 60 tackles and 11 sacks.

The 30-year-old signed with the Niners last offseason and recorded 44 tackles and seven sacks this year, earning his second Pro Bowl selection.

Javon Hargrave and the 49ers finished 13-4 and have earned a first-round bye.
