Dolphins Projected To Add Major Defensive Piece In Free Agency

As the Miami Dolphins prepare for their playoff game against the Kansas City Chiefs on Super Wild Card Weekend, there are already some people who have an eye toward the 2024 offseason. While the Dolphins continued making strides this season, there is still some work that needs to be done with the roster.

Not being able to lock down the AFC East and seeing the Buffalo Bills storm back despite being 6-6 entering their bye week has to be disappointing. Miami was defeated twice by their division rivals, which ultimately cost them the AFC East crown.

This offseason, the focus should be on finding ways to improve the team so that doesn’t occur again. In the opinion of Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report, one of the moves Miami could look to make is to add more talent to their secondary, specifically the safety position.

NFL News & Rumors: Jordan Fuller, Los Angeles Rams, NFL Free Agency, Miami Dolphins Updates

Who could the Dolphins look to target in free agency? Ballentine believes that Jordan Fuller of the Los Angeles Rams would be the ideal fit.

“Safety is an under-the-radar need for the Dolphins. The combination of DeShon Elliott and Jevon Holland have ben good for Miami. The problem is that Elliott, Brandon Jones and Elijah Campbell are all on expiring contracts. Elliott has turned in a good year, but that could mean he’s too expensive with other teams looking to poach him.

If that happens, Jordan Fuller would be a good investment. He’s not going to make a ton of splash plays, but he’s a reliable and dependable veteran who could make sure the bottom doesn’t fall out,” wrote Ballentine.

The Dolphins current safety combo is one of the better ones in the NFL. But, retaining everyone is virtually impossible. There will be some defections in the offseason and difficult decisions to be made, as the depth at safety could be greatly impacted this offseason.

Being able to bring in someone of Fuller’s caliber would be a solid addition to the Miami secondary. With stars Xavien Howard and Jalen Ramsey at cornerback, this secondary has a chance to be one of the better units in the NFL and Fuller can help solidify their standing.

A sixth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft out of Ohio State, Fuller would bring Super Bowl experience to a Dolphins team that isn’t overflowing with playoff experience. He was a 17-game starter for the Rams revamped defense this season, totaling 94 tackles with eight passes defended, three interceptions and three forced fumbles.
