Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts did not practice on Saturday due to an illness, according to Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk.
The good news is that he is still expected to play in the Eagles’ pivotal Monday night matchup with the Seattle Seahawks, but he probably will not be 100 percent.
In 13 games this season, Hurts has thrown for 3,192 yards, 19 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing 66.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 93.5. He has also rushed for 460 yards and 12 scores while averaging 3.7 yards per carry.
The 25-year-old has certainly taken a step back from last year, when he finished second in MVP voting after totaling 3,701 yards, 22 touchdowns and six picks while completing 66.5 percent of his throws and registering a passer rating of 101.5. He added 760 yards and 13 scores on the ground while recording 4.6 yards per attempt. Most importantly, he led Philadelphia to a Super Bowl appearance.
Jalen Hurts, who played his collegiate football at the University of Alabama and the University of Oklahoma, was selected by Philly in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He became the Eagles’ full-time starter under center in 2021, finishing with 3,144 yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He completed 61.3 percent of his passes and tallied a passer rating of 87.2. He also racked up 784 yards and 10 touchdowns as a rusher, logging 5.6 yards per tote.
Philadelphia is 10-3, but it has lost two straight games in blowout fashion. Most recently, the Eagles fell to the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 33-13 last weekend. The loss dropped the Birds into second place in the NFC East, as the Cowboys currently own the tiebreaker.
That’s what makes this upcoming matchup with the Seahawks so imperative.
Following Philly’s battle with Seattle, it will sandwich two games with the New York Giants around a clash with the Arizona Cardinals to close out the regular season.
