The Atlanta Dream secured a thrilling 98-96 victory over the Chicago Sky on Sunday, with Jordin Canada delivering the decisive moment in the final seconds. Canada drove to the basket for a buzzer-beating layup after receiving a handoff from Brionna Jones, capping off a hard-fought contest that highlighted the Dream’s resilience and clutch execution.

This win marked Atlanta’s third consecutive triumph, boosting their momentum as the season progresses. The game remained competitive throughout, showcasing strong defensive efforts and timely scoring from both sides, but the Dream ultimately found a way to pull ahead when it mattered most.

Canada played a pivotal role beyond her game-winning shot. She contributed 10 points, dished out nine assists, and recorded three steals, orchestrating the offense effectively and creating opportunities for her teammates in transition.

Allisha Gray emerged as the leading scorer for the Dream, posting an impressive 29 points while also grabbing six rebounds. Her scoring output provided the consistent firepower Atlanta needed to stay competitive against a determined Chicago squad.

Adding depth from the bench, rookie Madina Okot delivered a solid performance with 14 points and four rebounds. Her contributions helped maintain energy levels during key stretches and gave the Dream valuable secondary scoring options.

Rhyne Howard rounded out the standout performances with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists, and three blocks. Howard’s all-around game showcased her versatility on both ends of the floor, though her evening was later overshadowed by an on-court incident.

Despite the positive result on the scoreboard, the victory was tempered by concerning moments involving Chicago’s Angel Reese. Early in the fourth quarter, Reese suffered an injury on a non-contact play, with video footage revealing her left leg bending awkwardly backward after planting her foot.

The sequence unfolded during routine movement, raising immediate concerns about the severity of the injury and its potential impact on Reese’s availability moving forward. Medical staff attended to her promptly as the game continued.

Earlier in the third quarter, with just 4.8 seconds remaining, another contentious play unfolded around Reese. She appeared to draw contact while battling for a rebound against Dream center Elizabeth Williams, leading to both players becoming entangled and falling to the court.

Officials ruled the play as a foul on Reese, a call that drew visible frustration from the Sky. Howard, reacting to what she perceived as an unfair decision affecting her teammate, voiced her displeasure to the referees.

The officials responded by assessing Howard a technical foul for her complaints. This marked Howard’s second technical foul of the season, triggering a mandatory $500 fine from the WNBA.

League guidelines outline a clear escalation for technical fouls. The first three infractions each result in a $500 penalty, while the fourth through seventh carry $1,000 fines apiece. Subsequent technicals beyond that increase to $1,500, with the eighth and any further violations also imposing a one-game suspension.

As the Dream celebrated their narrow escape and continued winning streak, attention now shifts to the health of Reese and the potential disciplinary ripple effects from the late-game emotions.

Atlanta will look to build on this momentum in upcoming matchups, while Chicago focuses on recovery and regrouping from a tough loss.
