Recent Utah Jazz rumors center around their All-Star big man, Lauri Markkanen. They are going to disappoint some people in the fan base as well, as their best player could be on the move sooner than later.
During a recent segment on his podcast, “The Hoop Collective”, ESPN NBA insider Brian Windhorst revealed that Lauri Markkanen is involved in Jazz rumors. Based on what teams are saying, they are getting the impression that there is a good chance the team will trade him.
That is some major news around the league. With so few teams having cap space this summer and the free agent pool somewhat limited, swinging trades for impact players is the route franchises are looking to go to improve.
We have already seen some big trades this offseason. The New York Knicks acquiring Mikal Bridges from the Brooklyn Nets was a blockbuster. The Atlanta Hawks sent Dejounte Murray to the New Orleans Pelicans as well.
Where could Lauri Markkanen end up? The Philadelphia 76ers have been a rumored destination for the All-Star, but they could be done after signing Paul George.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have been connected to him in the past. Another team to keep an eye on is the Houston Rockets, who are looking to continue their ascension in the Western Conference and acquired more assets from the Nets in a trade ahead of the draft.
Last season, Lauri Markkanen averaged 23.2 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists in 33.1 minutes per game. It is interesting that Jazz rumors have involved him, as he has blossomed with the team into a go-to option offensively.
Just turning 27 in May, Markkanen isn’t even in his prime yet. The asking price on the trade market is likely very high, but it sounds like it is a matter of when, not if, he is on the move this summer.
