Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry refuted recent trade talk and reassured fans about the team’s future ahead of the NBA’s February 6 trade deadline.

Following the Warriors’ 116-115 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on January 15, Curry addressed growing speculation about the team’s roster, telling SportsCenter, “All the Twitter fingers who got deals that we need to make can kind of shut up a little bit and let us figure this thing out.”

Curry, along with teammate Draymond Green and head coach Steve Kerr, has repeatedly emphasized that the team is not interested in mortgaging its future for a short-term boost.

Despite Golden State’s 20-20 record and a current spot outside the playoff picture in the Western Conference, Curry pushed back against the narrative that he is satisfied with merely being “average.”

“Anybody that thinks I’m okay with just being on an average basketball team is insane,” Curry said in a postgame press conference. “That doesn’t mean you’re not in a situation where you’re trying to get better and make appropriate moves that help you do that.”

The Warriors are facing a critical decision as the trade deadline approaches, but Curry made it clear that the team is focused on finding a sustainable path forward. He noted that any potential moves would need to be carefully considered to avoid long-term damage to the franchise. “Trade machines are fun, but what does that actually look like?” Curry questioned, urging fans to put away their trade machines for now.

Curry’s comments came after a hectic 48-hour period for the Warriors, which included a humbling loss to the Toronto Raptors on January 13 and a hard-fought win against the Timberwolves. The narrow victory in Minneapolis seemed to bolster Curry’s confidence in the team’s ability to remain competitive.

“We showed that toughness tonight,” Curry said. “We know we can be competitive. We have a whole lot of confidence that we can beat anybody.”

Despite the team’s struggles this season, Stephen Curry’s leadership remains unwavering. The Warriors’ future is uncertain, but Curry’s commitment to improving Golden State and avoiding rash decisions appears to be the team’s guiding philosophy as the trade deadline draws nearer.
