As the 2026 NFL offseason draws to a close, veteran wide receiver Stefon Diggs remains one of the more intriguing names still available in free agency.
After a productive 2025 campaign that saw him return strongly from injury with the New England Patriots, the standout receiver has yet to land with a new team after being released, sparking discussions about what his next chapter might look like.
Diggs entered free agency following a solid year in which he appeared in all 17 games, recording 85 receptions for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns.
That performance earned him recognition as a top contender for the Comeback Player of the Year award, finishing in fifth place overall. Coming off a previous ACL recovery, his reliability and production on the field provided a strong case for teams seeking an experienced pass-catcher.
However, his path to a new contract has proven slower than many anticipated. Like several veteran players in recent years, Diggs appears content to let training camp approach while holding out for the right fit rather than rushing into a deal that might not align with his goals.
This strategy allows athletes to preserve their bodies, but it also reflects a calculated approach to securing favorable terms.
NFL insider Mike Florio recently offered pointed commentary on why some teams might be hesitant to pursue Diggs at this stage of his career.
“Diggs is a guy who firmly believes that the path to winning includes getting me involved and keeping me involved,” Florio said on PFT PM. “’If we’re not winning and I’m not involved, that means that if you would involve me, we’d be winning’ … You’ve got to be willing at this stage of Diggs’ career to tolerate the possibility that he’s not going to be happy.”
This personality trait, combined with past off-field matters—including a notable accusation of sexual assault that has lingered in public view—adds layers of complexity to his market value.
While his on-field talent remains evident, decision-makers across the league are weighing the full picture before committing significant resources.
At this point, Diggs continues to wait for an opportunity that matches his expectations. For a player with his track record of big-play ability and leadership, the right situation could still unlock another strong chapter.
Yet the current landscape suggests that any interested team will need to enter negotiations with eyes wide open regarding both his strengths and the potential challenges that come with adding him to the roster. As free agency progresses, all eyes remain on where this accomplished receiver will ultimately land.
