Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty left practice early Sunday with an apparent right leg injury after diving for a pass during a team period and landing awkwardly. Trainers helped the second-year back off the field as he was unable to put weight on the leg.
He did not return to the session.
The incident occurred late in practice as the Raiders continue preparations for the upcoming regular season. Multiple observers on the scene reported that Jeanty was reaching for a ball beyond his grasp when he went down.
Jeanty, selected sixth overall by the Raiders in the 2025 NFL draft out of Boise State, has been a centerpiece of the team’s offensive plans under coach Klint Kubiak.
As a rookie in 2025, Jeanty carried the ball 266 times for 975 yards and five touchdowns while adding 55 receptions for 346 yards and five more scores. His 1,321 yards from scrimmage ranked among the higher totals for running backs league-wide despite playing behind an offensive line that finished last in rushing yards per game at 77.5.
Those numbers came in a difficult offensive environment. The Raiders allowed an NFL-high 64 sacks last season, and Jeanty averaged just 3.7 yards per carry with limited yards before contact.
In college, Jeanty established himself as one of the most productive backs in recent FBS history. During his junior season at Boise State in 2024, he rushed for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns on 374 carries, finishing as the Heisman Trophy runner-up.
Over his three-year college career, he amassed 4,769 rushing yards and 50 rushing touchdowns while adding 862 receiving yards and six receiving scores. He set multiple program and conference records and earned two Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year awards.
Raiders officials and coaches have repeatedly emphasized their intention to expand Jeanty’s role in 2026. Kubiak has compared the desired workload to that of high-volume backs such as Christian McCaffrey, aiming for Jeanty to handle a significant share of snaps as both a rusher and receiver.
The team invested in its offensive line this offseason, including the addition of three-time Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum, with the goal of creating better running lanes and reducing the negative plays that limited Jeanty’s efficiency as a rookie.
Sunday’s injury raises questions about Jeanty’s availability as the preseason winds down and the regular season approaches. No official timetable or diagnosis has been announced by the team.
The Raiders have other options in the backfield, including fourth-round pick Mike Washington Jr., but Jeanty remains the clear featured back and a key building block for the offense. Observers noted that teammates paused and gathered after Jeanty left the field, reflecting the concern within the organization over the status of one of its most important young players.
Further updates on Jeanty’s condition are expected in the coming days as the Raiders continue their training camp and preseason schedule.
