The defending World Series champion Texas Rangers were the latest victims to get steamrolled by Ranger Suarez and the Philadelphia Phillies. On Tuesday night, the Phillies won 5-2, continuing their red-hot performance.

Tuesday was their 35th win of the season, which is the second time in franchise history they have won 35 out of 49 games to start a season. Over their last 33 games, they have gone 27-6, which is their best stretch over a 33-game span since at least 1901.

The Philadelphia Phillies are one fire and Ranger Suarez is a big reason for that. The 28-year-old lefty is off to one of the best starts in MLB history, approaching the kind of production we saw from Grover Alexander and Juan Marichal.

Against the Rangers, Suarez fired off seven strong innings, giving up only five hits and two walks, resulting in one earned run. He also struck out 10, winning his ninth consecutive start after not factoring into the decision in his season debut.

“He knows what it takes to win games,” All-Star Bryce Harper said. Harper helped the Philadelphia Phillies win on Tuesday hitting his 11th home run of the season.

On the season, Ranger Suarez now has a 1.36 ERA. That is the third lowest by a starting pitcher through their first 10 starts in franchise history. He only trails Alexander, who had ERAs of 1.24 in 1916 and 1.31 in 1915.

In 1966, Marichal was the last pitcher before Ranger Suarez to have a 9-0 start with an ERA under 1.50. Robin Roberts, in 1952, was the last Phillies starter to win at least nine consecutive starts as well.

The 2024 season has been a special one for the Philadelphia Phillies to this point. They will look to keep it up, cementing their status as World Series contenders early in the season.
