The Boston Celtics have been without their star big man Kristaps Porzingis since April 30th. In Game 4 against the Miami Heat in their first-round series, he suffered a calf injury that has kept him sidelined since that point.

However, according to NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Boston Celtics may not be without him for much longer. On Tuesday, he offered an encouraging update on the status of Kristaps Porzinigs moving forward.

There is growing optimism, per Wojnarowski, that the versatile big man will be able to make his return to the court for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers. Game 4 is set for Monday, May 27th.

Dealing with a soleus strain of his right calf, Kristaps Porzingis has been ramping up his on-court work and working to increase his fitness so that he can be in basketball shape and get back in the lineup.

The Boston Celtics have had the luxury of being able to take their time with the Porzingis rehab. They weren’t pushed very hard by the Heat in Round 1 and the Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t give them much trouble in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Both series were won in five games, with their only losses coming when their opponent made 20+ 3-pointers.

Getting Kristaps Porzingis back in the lineup would be a huge boost for the Boston Celtics. He impacts the game on both ends of the court, providing elite 3-point shooting for a big man and an intimidating presence in the paint defensively.

During the regular season, he averaged 20.2 points and 7.2 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.9 blocks per game. There may not be a better No. 3 option offensively in the NBA than Kristaps Porzingis.
