Eagles Predicted to Make Absurd Trade for Pro Bowl Weapon

The Philadelphia Eagles may be left with no choice but to part ways with tight end Dallas Goedert, as the Eagles are very tight against the salary cap, and Goedert has just one year remaining on his deal.

So, could Philadelphia ultimately be in the market for his replacement?

Marissa Myers of TWSN thinks so, predicting the the Eagles will swing a trade for Atlanta Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts.

“Pitts hasn’t been utilized correctly by the Falcons during his time on the team and has led to his ceiling being capped,” Myers wrote. “As the Falcons try to still accelerate their rebuild, they’d be able to do so faster with the resources acquired in a trade for Pitts that would give them more than four picks in this year’s draft.”

Myers is right in that Pitts could be traded. Like Goedert, he has only one year left on his contract (more on that in a second), and he has not exactly progressed like Atlanta had hoped following his Pro Bowl rookie campaign. But the chances of Philadelphia actually being the team that trades for him are slim to none.

Think about it. The Eagles are already having a hard enough time keeping Goedert on the roster for 2025 and will almost certainly not be re-signing him after next season. He also has a $12 million cap hit for next season. Why would Philly then go and trade for Pitts, who can walk after 2025 just like Goedert and carries a $10.9 million cap hit for next season, nearly as high as Goedert’s?

It would be much more likely that the Eagles would simply select a tight end in the NFL Draft (this upcoming class has a lot of good ones) next month rather than trading for one that would present the team with the same exact problems.

Again, Pitts could absolutely get dealt in the coming weeks, but Philadelphia is definitely not going to represent one of his top potential destinations.
