The Miami Heat are navigating a transitional period after trading star guard Jimmy Butler to the Golden State Warriors. This move has shifted leadership responsibilities to Bam Adebayo and Tyler Herro.

Despite the challenges posed by this significant roster change, the Heat are working to adapt and find a new team dynamic.

Since Butler’s departure, the Heat have struggled, posting a 4-12 record. This slump has spotlighted Adebayo and Herro, who are now the team’s leading figures.

“It’s growing pains for us,” Adebayo told the Miami Herald. “This is the first situation that it has really been just me and Tyler. We’re still trying to get Wiggs comfortable so he can be fully himself.”

Andrew Wiggins, who joined the Heat as part of the trade, still finds his place within the team’s structure. The adjustment process is ongoing, with the team focusing on simplicity to integrate Wiggins effectively.

Despite their current record of 29-37 and their ninth-place finish in the Eastern Conference, the Heat are optimistic about their core group’s potential. Herro emphasized resilience when reflecting on the situation.

“I’m even keel,” Herro said. “I try not to get too high or not get too low for moments like this. But this is when this has to bring the best out of me and Bam specifically trying to lead this team and get this thing turned around.”

The Heat’s late-game performance has been a significant concern. Since the start of February, they have been outscored severely in the fourth quarter and clutch situations. The absence of Butler’s late-game decision-making has been acutely felt.

Coach Erik Spoelstra expressed confidence in Adebayo and Herro’s leadership during these testing times.

“Anybody can lead when things are going great,” Spoelstra said. “But these guys, they’re about the right things. They want it so bad. They want everybody to play well and get this breakthrough.”

As the Heat adjusts to life without Butler, the leadership of Adebayo and Herro will be crucial. Their ability to steer the team through rough waters will determine how well Miami can rebound from its current challenges and prepare for the postseason.
