New Orleans Saints running back Alvin Kamara is on track for a significant payday in 2025 following his impressive performance to start the 2024 NFL season.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports that Kamara, who had contract disputes this offseason, is setting himself up for a major deal after his standout performances through the first two games.

Despite offseason contract frustrations, including briefly leaving the Saints’ mandatory minicamp, Kamara has put all distractions aside to deliver on the field. He currently leads the NFL with five touchdowns and has amassed 290 yards from scrimmage, averaging 5.7 yards per carry.

Kamara’s play has been crucial for the Saints’ high-powered offense, led by coordinator Klint Kubiak, and the veteran running back has reminded everyone why he remains one of the league’s top offensive threats.

Kamara Reflects on His Success and Focus

Kamara attributes his early-season success to staying prepared and keeping his focus on the game. “I’ve just been going out there and doing what I’ve always done,” Kamara said. “The team trusts me, and I trust them. We’re all locked in and having fun out there, and that’s showing on the field.”

When asked about the contract situation that dominated headlines in the offseason, Kamara said it’s no longer his focus. “I’m here to play football. I’m not worried about anything else right now—what happens after the season, happens.”

Kamara’s performance, especially his four-touchdown explosion against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, has further strengthened his position for contract talks after the season. “I’m just focused on winning,” he added. “Everything else will work itself out when the time comes.”

Contract Negotiations Loom as Kamara Eyes 2025 Payday

Under his current contract, Kamara is set to earn $11.8 million this season, with a $22.4 million base salary scheduled for 2025. However, both Kamara and the Saints understand that the $22.4 million figure is not a realistic number, making contract negotiations a pressing issue for next offseason.

Negotiations between the Saints and Kamara’s camp began earlier this year but were complicated by rising market prices for top running backs, such as Saquon Barkley’s new deal. Though no agreement was reached before the season, Kamara made it clear that his focus was on football, not contracts, saying, “I want to be a Saint. I want to retire here.” Still, he is aware that if the Saints cannot meet his value, other teams may come calling, especially given his strong start to the season.

With his dynamic play so far, Kamara is building a strong case for a market-level contract—whether it’s with New Orleans or another franchise.
