The New York Yankees have found themselves mired in controversy early on in the 2025 MLB season, as their “torpedo bats” have drawn the ire of fans and players alike.

The Yankees have changed their bats to redistribute the weight more toward the barrel, which has paid dividends thus far. After all, they smashed 15 home runs during their three-game sweep of the Milwaukee Brewers to start the season.

New York’s alterations are within MLB regulations, so it’s perfectly legal. Plus, not all of the Yanks are using the new bats. It has certainly worked for Chisholm, though, who has already hit three homers through three games.

Chisholm has decided to fire back at critics who have had something to say about the Yankees’ new bats, taking to social media to explain exactly what the Bronx Bombers have done.

A fan then interjected and said that it was actually the Yankees’ own announcers who said that the barrel was moved more toward the label, to which Chisholm responded, “They don’t know either.”

Brewers pitcher Trevor Megill complained about the bats following the second game of the three-game set, saying that the Yankees probably get away with it because they’re the Yankees.

Here’s the thing, though: every team around baseball can utilize this quirk, so the Yanks aren’t cheating. They are just taking full advantage of the rules, which is perfectly valid.

New York acquired Chisholm in a trade deadline deal with the Miami Marlins last season. He slashed .273/.325/.500 with 11 home runs and 23 RBI over 191 plate appearances in the Bronx in 2024. He owns a lifetime slash line of .250/.313/.451.
