Cowboys Acquire Former All-Pro WR in Ridiculous Trade Proposal

The Dallas Cowboys are definitely in need of some help at wide receiver behind CeeDee Lamb, and a tenuous salary cap situation has prevented them from making any significant moves in free agency.

However, with the NFL Draft looming, the Cowboys may have a big trade in them, and Bleacher Report’s Gary Davenport has proposed a deal in which Dallas would land San Francisco 49ers star Brandon Aiyuk.

In the package, the Cowboys would send a fifth-round draft pick and a seventh-rounder to the 49ers in exchange for Aiyuk, who is coming off of a torn ACL.

“After last year’s 7-10 debacle, a Dallas Cowboys team that enters every season with aspirations of winning the Super Bowl desperately wants to turn things around quickly,” Davenport wrote. “And given the lack of talent on the roster at wide receiver outside superstar CeeDee Lamb, that position is undoubtedly one of Dallas’ biggest needs.”

But why would San Francisco trade Aiyuk—who earned a Second-Team All-Pro selection in 2023—for a couple of Day 3 picks?

Aiyuk’s trade value may not be incredibly high right now given the fact that he is recovering from a major injury and just landed a four-year, $120 million extension from the Niners last offseason. Plus, he has a $22.5 million roster bonus that kicks in on Tuesday.

However, he is two years removed from hauling in 75 receptions for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns, and he is 27 years old. If the 49ers aren’t able to land anything of significance for Aiyuk, they will surely just hold onto him, especially after jettisoning Deebo Samuel earlier in the offseason.

Dallas would be surrendering very little in this trade package, although it would definitely make things a bit trickier for the Cowboys financially, particularly with Micah Parsons still seeking an extension.

Regardless, this deal probably isn’t happening in any universe.
