The New York Mets are going to be a very interesting team to keep an eye on this offseason.

After a rough finish to the 2025 MLB season and missing the playoffs, many believe that the Mets will be aggressive once again. Last offseason, they went out and signed superstar outfielder Juan Soto to a monstrous contract.

Who could New York target this time around? That remains to be seen. However, an intriguing potential target has been suggested for the Mets.

CBS Sports analyst R.J. Anderson has named New York as one of the top potential suitors when it comes to Boston Red Sox free agent third baseman Alex Bregman.

Bregman would be a nice pickup for New York. He would bring both defense and plate ability to the diamond. In 2025, the 31-year-old infielder put together a strong season for the Red Sox.

When all was said and done, Bregman played in 114 games for Boston. He hit 18 home runs to go along with 62 RBI, while slashing .273/.360/.462.

Granted, a move to sign Bregman would not be as impactful as a move to sign a player like Soto. But, he’s the kind of piece that the lineup was missing in 2025. If the Mets were able to sign Bregman, their chances to make the playoffs in 2026 would rise dramatically.

In order to land Bregman, New York would need to open up the checkbook. According to projection from Spotrac, the veteran third baseman could get a deal worth around $110 million over the course of four years. That would be a high price to pay and combining him with Soto’s deal would be aggressive spending.

That being said, if the Mets view Bregman as their missing piece, they should pursue him.

Only time will tell, but New York is a team to watch closely when it comes to Bregman. It will be interesting to see if the Mets end up choosing to pursue him or not.
