Yet, amid the celebration, a significant concern emerged from the trenches.
Star defensive tackle Ed Oliver exited the game in the first half with an apparent arm injury, and postgame updates painted a grim picture for Buffalo’s already depleted interior line.
“Bills standout DT Ed Oliver biceps injury is a key one to watch. I’m told the injury will force Oliver to miss game action. Tests coming to determine how long,” Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported.
“Oliver, who got a sack today, had his left arm in a sling after the game. Another blow to #Bills thin DT room.”
Oliver, who notched a sack before departing, has endured a frustrating 2025 season. He previously missed multiple contests due to an ankle ailment, making Sunday’s matchup against the Panthers only his third start of the year. At 27, Oliver remains a cornerstone of Buffalo’s defensive front, locked into a four-year, $68 million contract extension that runs through 2027.
The timing couldn’t be worse for the Bills, whose defensive tackle depth has been tested all season. With the NFL trade deadline looming on November 4, general manager Brandon Beane may need to pivot quickly.
Unfortunately, this injury occurred right after Buffalo received some reinforcements with the return of defensive linemen Michael Hoecht and Larry Ogunjobi.
Hoecht and Ogunjobi’s return provided a boost against Carolina, but Oliver’s potential extended absence could expose vulnerabilities against stronger opponents. Buffalo’s pass rush relies heavily on interior disruption, and losing Oliver for weeks—or longer—would strain the rotation.

ESPN recently released its ranking of the top 25 players most likely to switch teams, featuring several edge-rushers but zero interior linemen. This scarcity complicates Buffalo’s options if diagnostic tests confirm a severe biceps tear for Oliver, which often requires surgery and months of rehabilitation.
Head coach Sean McDermott has preached resilience through adversity, and the Bills’ blowout win showcased their ability to dominate lesser competition. Still, as they eye a deep playoff run, fortifying the defensive core remains critical.
Further medical evaluations on Oliver are expected early this week. Until then, the Bills’ front office will scour the trade landscape, balancing immediate needs with long-term roster health.
