There have been plenty of New York Knicks rumors circulating in recent weeks. Since being eliminated from the 2024 NBA Playoffs, there has been speculation about what the team could do to upgrade its roster. Could Paul George be a potential target?
Several key players are set to hit free agency. OG Anunoby and Isaiah Hartenstein have garnered the most attention, but Precious Achiuwa and Alec Burks are free agents as well. While the Knicks would love to retain all of them and run it back, that is easier said than done.
They are capped in what they can offer Hartenstein on his next contract, so a team could swoop in with a large contract offer and poach him. It would be shocking to see Anunoby leave as his agent is the son of team president Leon Rose.
But, that hasn’t stopped people from putting together hypothetical scenarios for New York this offseason. One of the players who have been linked as a potential target is Paul George. However, if recent Knicks rumors are to be believed, he won’t be coming to the Big Apple.
According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, via Knicks Union on X, the Knicks are not pursuing George. While his name has been brought up in conversations the organization has had, he isn’t someone who has been seriously pursued.
There is a lot to like about what Paul George brings to the table as a two-way player. But, given his age, as he turned 34 in May, he doesn’t seem to be a fit for this current version of the Knicks. New York has done a great job under Rose not paying a premium and chasing stars who are past their prime. George would certainly qualify as such.
Expect Knicks rumors to continue swirling in the coming weeks. The 2024 NBA Draft, which is only two weeks away, will be the first chance the team has to make a move. New York has three selections, two first-round picks and one second-rounder, at their disposal to add to the roster or use in trade negotiations.
