The New England Patriots released cornerback D’Shawn Jamison from the practice squad on Monday just six days after signing him.
The move came as part of a series of roster adjustments that also included placing wide receiver Romeo Doubs on injured reserve and promoting safety Elliott Davison to the 53-man roster.
Jamison, 27, joined the Patriots’ practice squad on October 13 after a brief stint with the Arizona Cardinals.
The undrafted free agent out of Texas had been released by the Cardinals on October 6. His addition was viewed as a depth move amid earlier injuries in New England’s secondary, which had forced the team to operate shorthanded in recent weeks.
The Houston-area product (born in New Orleans and displaced by Hurricane Katrina) spent five seasons at Texas, where he transitioned from wide receiver/returner to cornerback.
He appeared in 60 games, recording roughly 139 tackles and six interceptions while establishing himself as a productive kick and punt returner, including multiple touchdowns.
His pro day athleticism (4.51-second 40-yard dash) helped him earn a shot as a rookie free agent with the San Francisco 49ers in 2023.
The 49ers waived him after training camp, and the Carolina Panthers claimed him. He played in 15 games as a rookie, primarily on special teams, finishing with about 10 total tackles and one pass defensed, plus a handful of kick returns.
After the Panthers released him following the 2024 training camp, Jamison spent the 2024 and 2025 seasons primarily on the Pittsburgh Steelers’ practice squad.
He was elevated for a few games in 2025, contributing on special teams, and signed a reserve/future contract before being waived in final roster cuts in August 2026. A short practice-squad stay with Arizona followed before New England’s brief interest.
At 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10 and around 185 pounds, Jamison has functioned mainly as a depth corner and special-teams contributor throughout his NFL career.
His release is a standard practice-squad transaction as teams manage limited spots and address more immediate needs elsewhere on the roster.
The Patriots, 4-2 after a Week 6 win over the Jets, continue navigating injuries, including Doubs’ shoulder issue that will sideline him for at least four games.
For a veteran journeyman still seeking a stable role, the short stop in Foxborough adds another chapter to a career defined by practice-squad tenures and limited regular-season snaps.
Jamison remains available to other teams if they seek similar depth or returner experience.
