New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau has garnered a less than flattering reputation throughout his career. He is known as someone who pushes his players too hard with grueling practices and heavy minute loads.
Many people believe that the New York Knicks’ injury woes during the 2023-24 NBA season can be traced back to him. Alas, several of the injuries that occurred cannot be drawn back to overuse.
It isn’t Tom Thibodeau’s fault that Julius Randle was essentially table-topped by Jamie Jaquez Jr. on January 27th. OG Anunboy’s issue with his elbow was already a thing before coming to the New York Knicks.
Mitchell Robinson and Bojan Bogdanovic both suffered ankle injuries on non-basketball plays in the first round against the Philadelphia 76ers. Josh Hart was elbowed in the torso and developed an abdominal strain. Jalen Brunson stepped wrong and suffered a foot injury before fracturing his hand.
The only issue that could possibly be from overuse was the hamstring strain Anunoby suffered in Game 2 against the Indiana Pacers. But, that cannot even be said for sure. What can be said with 100 percent certainty, however, is that the New York Knicks aren’t where they are without Tom Thibodeau.
During a recent segment on ESPN’s Get Up, NBA insider Brian Windhorst went to bat for the Knicks head coach. He praised the work he has done in four seasons as head coach, as this team isn’t where they are without him on the sideline.
“There are no Knicks without Thibs. … There’s no way forward with this team without Tom Thibodeau coaching this way,” Windhorst said.
As Windhorst noted, a perfect match was found between Tom Thibodeau and the New York Knicks. This roster is built perfectly for the style of play Thibodeau wants, and they love playing for him.
In previous stops, things may not have worked out well. But in New York, the entire front office, coaching staff and roster are on the same page. They operate as one and are one of the best-positioned franchises in the NBA.
