As the Los Angeles Lakers prepare for free agency, DeMar DeRozan was recently named their dream target in free agency.
The Los Angeles Lakers had a mediocre year by their standards during the 2023-24 season. After winning a game in the NBA Play-In Tournament, they were awarded the right to face the Denver Nuggets in the first round. This didn’t play out well for the Lakers, as the Nuggets sent them to an early summer.
With some questions still regarding the future of LeBron James in Los Angeles, the Lakers will be hoping to keep him and add some pieces to a team that still has some talent to compete. Recently, Bleacher Report named the dream free agent target for the Lakers. Making the list was DeMar DeRozan. Here’s what they had to say about the potential pairing.
This is quite a pipe dream, especially since DeMar DeRozan could make eight times as much money by returning to the Chicago Bulls next season.
Still, DeRozan himself hasn’t ruled out signing with the Los Angeles Lakers, who were his favorite team while he grew up in Compton, California.
This would be a very interesting move for both the Lakers and DeRozan. At this stage in his career, DeRozan might be willing to take much less to play for his hometown team and chase a ring with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
With the Chicago Bulls not being close to contending in the Eastern Conference, DeRozan is still the caliber of player that could help elevate the Los Angeles Lakers to a contender in the Western Conference. However, the big issue will be the money.
It is going to be extremely difficult to leave all that money on the table, even with the potential allure of returning home to Los Angeles for DeRozan.
The Los Angeles Lakers and DeRozan feel like a pairing that has been linked together for a few years. Now we will have to see how much playing for the purple and gold means to DeRozan.
