Some of the biggest news around the NBA this week was the Los Angeles Lakers being turned down by Dan Hurley. The UConn Huskies head coach was courted by the Lakers, who reportedly had made him their top target to replace Darvin Ham as head coach.

Ultimately, Dan Hurley decided what the Los Angeles Lakers offered was not enough for him to leave the school. He was reportedly offered a six-year, $70 million deal. When broken down based on the cost of living in Los Angeles compared to Storrs, this offer didn’t come close to being a raise.

Based on that reported offer, Dan Hurley would have been the sixth-highest-paid coach in the NBA, slotting in behind Monty Williams of the Detroit Pistons. While that wasn’t enough to get him to leave UConn, he did reveal that there was a price that would have gotten him to uproot and move cross country.

During an appearance on The Dan LeBetard Show with Stugotz, the back-to-back NCAA Champion spoke about his decision to turn down the Lakers. Dan Hurley was asked if there was a price that would have gotten him to accept the job, and he revealed that there was.

“To say that it’s not a motivating factor – the finances –to leave a place, it’s definitely a thing…To leave all that behind, there probably is a number. I don’t know what that is,” Hurley said, via the Dan LeBetard Show with Stugoz on X.

Dan Hurley didn’t reveal what that exact price was, but that has to kill Los Angeles Lakers fans to hear. Had they been willing to offer him a truly eye-popping deal, their head coaching vacancy would have been filled already.

Given when he has built at UConn, it would have taken one of those historic offers for him to jump ship. The Los Angeles Lakers ended up not offering such a contract, leaving them on the hunt for their next head coach still.
