Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert was limited in practice on Thursday due to a sprained ankle, via Ian Rapoport of NFL media.

It marks the second straight day Herbert was a limited participant.

Herbert entered the season with plantar fasciitis in his foot, so this is just the latest setback for the star signal-caller.

There is ample pressure on Herbert in 2024 after a very disappointing year last season. The Chargers went just 5-12 in 2023, as Herbert played in 13 games (he missed the last four contests due to a finger injury) and threw for 3,134 yards, 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Nobody denies Herbert’s talent. However, he has made the playoffs just once since entering the NFL as a first-round pick in 2020.

What’s more, the University of Oregon product has gone just 32-33 as a starter for Los Angeles.

Herbert’s professional career got off to a great start, as he totaled 4,336 yards, 31 touchdowns and 10 picks during his rookie campaign. He followed that up by racking up 5,014 yards, 38 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in 2021 en route to a Pro Bowl appearance.

Since then, the 26-year-old has regressed. He registered 4,739 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 2022 before the most disappointing year of his career last season.

Herbert has logged 399 yards, four touchdowns and a pick while completing 67.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 98.4 through three games in 2024.

The Los Angeles Chargers are 2-1 and will host the Kansas City Chiefs in an AFC West showdown this Sunday. We’ll see if Justin Herbert is able to take the field. If not, things could get ugly for the Bolts.
