The LSU Tigers wrapped up their 2025 campaign under interim head coach Frank Wilson with an intense showdown against the Houston Cougars in the Kinder’s Texas Bowl at NRG Stadium.

Facing a significantly thinned-out lineup, as numerous players chose to sit out in preparation for professional opportunities or ahead of the upcoming transfer window, the Tigers put up a strong fight before succumbing 38-35.

Incoming head coach Lane Kiffin, fresh off signing a lucrative seven-year contract valued at around $91 million with the university, made an appearance at the venue.

Kiffin participated in a brief on-air discussion with the broadcast crew during the contest. Not long after, while action continued on the field, footage showed him departing the premises in a vehicle, sparking widespread discussion across digital platforms.

Supporters quickly voiced disapproval on various online forums regarding the decision by the incoming leader to not remain until the conclusion.

Although a significant portion of the athletes who took the field that evening may not return to the program under the new regime in the coming year, the contest provided a platform for them to demonstrate their potential value moving forward.

With the transfer portal set to activate soon after the new year, expectations are high that Kiffin will aggressively pursue additions to bolster the squad.

Reports already connect LSU to several prominent athletes nationwide who have made themselves available via the portal.

The defeat ended LSU’s season on a bittersweet note, snapping a recent streak of postseason successes while marking a transition into a new chapter.

As the program looks ahead, the focus shifts toward rebuilding and integrating fresh talent under Kiffin’s direction in Baton Rouge.
