There were a lot of people skeptical of the New York Knicks signing shooting guard Donte DiVincenzo during the 2024 NBA offseason. He was expected to play a key role off the bench, but New York was sacrificing a lot of size inserting him into the rotation in place of Obi Toppin.

It ultimately turned out to be an excellent move for the Knicks. For the second straight offseason, it can be argued that they made the best signing in the NBA. Following the success of Jalen Brunson in 2022, Donte DiVincenzo followed up with a historic season of his own.

After starting the season coming off the bench, Tom Thibodeau made a change to his lineup in early December. Donte DiVincenzo was inserted into the starting five in place for Quentin Grimes and his production skyrocketed.

The move resulted in the best NBA season of the Villanova product’s career, as he re-wrote the Knicks record books. The single-game record for 3-pointers made was set, as Donte DiVincenzo knocked down 11 against the Detroit Pistons on March 25th.

He made 283 3-pointers during the regular season, which broke the record previously held by Evan Fournier. That was good for third place in the league. In the NBA Playoffs, he made another 45, which led everyone in the postseason.

As shared by Tommy Beer on X, that put The Big Ragu in some elite company. He joined Stephen Curry and James Harden as the only players in NBA history with 325+ 3-pointers made and 250+ assists handed out in the same season.

DiVincenzo was one of the players who stepped up with the Knicks’ lineup devastated by injuries. Right down to the final whistle of the season, he and his teammates continued fighting. In Game 7 against the Indiana Pacers, he did everything he could to get New York a win.

As shared by StatMuse on X, he knocked down nine 3-pointers en route to 39 points. It was another record-setting performance by the dynamic shooting guard. The nine 3-pointers were a franchise playoff record, while the 39 points were the most a Knicks player has ever scored in a Game 7.

No doubters remain when it comes to Donte DiVincenzo signing with the Knicks. He proved to be exactly what the team needed and it will be fun to see what he has in store for Year 2 in the Big Apple.
