Chiefs Could Make Stunning NFL Draft Decision to Help Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs are clearly in need of help offensively following their embarrassing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and while offensive line is their main area of concern, they also have some other issues that need to be taken care of.

We know that the Chiefs must add some weapons for Patrick Mahomes, even after re-signing Marquise Brown and with the return of Rashee Rice looming. But could Kansas City actually make a move to address its backfield rather than its receiving corps?

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated thinks so, stating he feels that the Chiefs potentially going with a running back in the first round of the NFL Draft is a possibility.

“At the latter, assuming Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty and North Carolina’s Omarion Hampton are gone, Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins, and Iowa’s Kaleb Johnson could be options—the idea of Henderson in K.C. is pretty enticing,” Breer wrote.

Henderson is not viewed as a first-round pick, so if Kansas City did choose him at No. 31, it would be one heck of a surprise.

Still, the Ohio State product is coming off of a magnificent 2024 campaign in which he rushed for 1,016 yards and seven touchdowns while averaging 7.1 yards per carry. He also caught 27 passes for 284 yards and a score and helped the Buckeyes win a national championship.

The Chiefs are currently employing Isiah Pacheco in the backfield, but he missed considerable time this past season due to injuries. But even with Pacheco returning healthy in 2025, Kansas City could stand to add a backfield partner for him, and Henderson would be a great option.

However, the Chiefs would probably be able to nab Henderson on Day 2 of the draft.
