Since the Dallas Cowboys parted ways with head coach Mike McCarthy, speculation has been rife that Deion Sanders, a Cowboys icon, could return to coach the team.

Sanders has gained acclaim in the coaching ranks for his achievements at Jackson State and now at the University of Colorado.

Rumors have circulated that Sanders might be considering an NFL transition, particularly as his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders, are expected to enter the 2025 NFL Draft. The Cowboys’ vacancy seemed like a perfect fit, especially given Sanders’ longstanding relationship with team owner Jerry Jones.

However, doubts are mounting regarding Sanders’ potential return to the Cowboys. Despite the buzz, there’s been no formal interview process initiated for Sanders.

While Sanders has had conversations with Jerry Jones about the Cowboys’ opening, these discussions have not progressed to an official interview.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport from NFL Network has expressed skepticism about Sanders interviewing for the role.

“Nothing scheduled yet with Coach Prime. I’d be surprised, probably very surprised, if something did in fact get scheduled.”

Additionally, Josina Anderson, another NFL insider, has shed light on why an official interview might not be forthcoming.

With Sanders leading Colorado to significant attention in college football, the university may be reluctant to let him go for an NFL opportunity. This could explain the silence on this front as the Dallas Cowboys explore other candidates.

While the idea of Deion Sanders coaching the Dallas Cowboys has captured the imagination of many, practical considerations and current commitments suggest this reunion might remain just a dream.

The Cowboys continue their search for a new head coach, seemingly looking beyond Sanders, as he continues to excel in his current role at Colorado.
