Performance by Zach Wilson Was Bittersweet

The New York Jets were able to snap their five-game losing streak behind a great performance by Zach Wilson. However, the victory feels bittersweet.

Against the Houston Texans, the New York Jets, despite the drama and news surrounding their quarterback situation during the week were able to pull off arguably their best win of the season. The Jets beat the Texans by a score of 30-6, with all 30 points coming in the second half.

It was easily the best performance by the offense this season, and it was led by Zach Wilson. Wilson was talked about a lot during the week, as there were reports that he didn’t want to play anymore this season. However, he certainly played on Sunday, and he turned it into arguably the best game of his career.

In the win, Wilson went 27-for-36, with 301 yards passing and two passing touchdowns. Wilson only turned the ball over once on a fumble but overall played a great game. It was the first time all season that Wilson was able to throw for 300 passing yards, as he looked very comfortable out there.

While it was nice to see the Jets snap the losing streak, at this point in the season, it has to feel a bit bittersweet. With the Jets so far out of the playoff picture, the only thing wins do for the team now is push them further away from being in the top 5 of the NFL Draft.

In addition to wins hurting the Jets’ chances to get in the Top 5, it also has to make people wonder where this type of play was from Wilson all season. If Wilson played even close to like he did against the Texans, the Jets would likely be in the playoff hunt.

Now for Wilson, he will have to play with that same freedom he did against the Texans for the rest of the season. It’s hard to imagine Wilson coming back to the Jets, but these games are important for him to audition for potentially his next team.

With Rodgers unlikely to come back this season due to the Jets being out of the playoff hunt, it will be interesting to see if Wilson can stack good games together. Unfortunately for him, it’s something he hasn’t been able to do in his career.
