Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson saw his promising rookie campaign cut short after suffering a season-ending shoulder injury back in Week 5.

Richardson underwent surgery to repair the issue, and he seems to be making great progress.

On Thursday, Richardson told reporters that he will begin throwing next month. He also said he doesn’t see himself changing much about his game in response to the injury.

“I feel like I’m going to stay the same, keep being me,” Richardson said, via Joel A. Erickson of The Indianapolis Star. “I can’t try to run through everybody. If it’s first-and-10, I need to get what I can get, get down, get out of bounds, get to the sideline, do what I can do. … I’ve been dealing with that my whole football career. I’m a big, physical guy, I love to play physical, and people don’t really expect that from QBs. There is a time and a place to be physical.”

Richardson may have to be a bit more careful, as he also sustained a concussion in Week 2 before ultimately bowing out with the shoulder injury in Week 5.

When he was on the field this season, the 21-year-old flashed tantalizing potential, throwing for 577 yards, three touchdowns and an interception while completing 59.5 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 87.3. In addition, he rushed for 136 yards and four touchdowns, averaging 5.4 yards per carry.

Richardson, who played his collegiate football at the University of Florida, was selected by the Colts with the No. 2 overall pick of the NFL Draft last spring.

Gardner Minshew filled in admirably for Richardson, nearly leading Indianapolis to the playoffs.

The Colts went 9-8 this season and should certainly be a fun team to watch in 2024 with a healthy Anthony Richardson hopefully back in the fold.
