The NBA recently suspended Draymond Green of the Golden State Warriors indefinitely. This came as a surprise to some fans. Green has developed a reputation for being reckless on the floor. Suddenly, the league is taking action.
That action may intersect with the demise of the Warriors. This team is falling well short of expectations in 2023-24. They’ve been a dynasty for a decade, but that dynasty may be coming to an end.

For a while, the Warriors and the Cavs were a foregone conclusion in the NBA Finals. They met in the big dance for a league-record consecutive four years in a row.

Eventually, LeBron James would leave the Cavaliers to rebuild. In the meantime, the Warriors stayed in the title picture. Yet, nothing lasts forever. It’s beginning to look like Golden State will finally have to rebuild.

Kevon Looney has been one of the most underrated members of this Warriors dynasty. He’s a hard-nosed big who provides plenty of value. Still, Looney has some limitations. The Warriors could use a pure big man.
A big man like Allen, for example. He’s got the size to contain any other big in the league. He’s also a true rim protector. Allen’s vertical gravity could give the Warriors’ offense a new wrinkle as well.

He’s also considerably younger than Green. That’s why the Warriors are giving up a protected first here as well. They’re trying to prepare for the future without conceding their current title odds.
Should the Cavaliers help them strike that balance?
Why The Cleveland Cavaliers Do The Deal
Allen is a fantastic big man. He may not be the best fit with this roster. His inability to space the floor doesn’t pair well with a fellow poor shooter in Evan Mobley.
The Cavaliers won’t be trading Mobley. He’s their most important player. If Allen is a poor fit alongside him, they need to move Allen. Would Green be a better fit?
We think so. The defensive potential between that duo would be tantalizing. Meanwhile, Green is connecting from long range with high efficiency this year.

This deal should make the Cavs better, and they’re getting some draft capital back for taking on an aging, expensive player. Hopefully, Green doesn’t get suspended again.
