Victor Wembanyama’s impressive performance, featuring 30 points, six rebounds, six assists, and seven blocks, led the San Antonio Spurs to a 118-105 win over the Portland Trail Blazers during Thursday’s NBA action, ending their five-game losing streak.

The victory was highlighted by Wembanyama’s standout display, marking his third game this season scoring 30 or more points, including previous games against the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns.

In a highly anticipated matchup, Wembanyama faced off against fellow top draft pick Scoot Henderson of the Trail Blazers. Wembanyama expressed the significance of playing against talented peers, especially those around his age.

“It’s always important to me to play against great players, especially players my age,” Wembanyama said.

Henderson, who ended the game with 25 points, four assists, and six turnovers, commended Wembanyama’s unique presence on the court.

“His length alone is just weird, it’s like he hovers over you,“ Henderson said of Wembanyama. “You can’t really feel him or bump him off because of his length.”

On the Trail Blazers’ side, Malcolm Brogdon and Jerami Grant each put up 29 points to counter San Antonio’s dominance. The Spurs established a commanding lead early on, creating a 28-point gap in the first quarter and maintaining a 38-14 lead into the second.

“We were never stopping the ball, always moving and sharing it,” Wembanyama said. “The defense, we were all locked in on the shifts. We had a lot of deflections, especially in the first half. It’s details, but when you get it all together, this is what it looks like.”

Wembanyama credited the team’s success to continuous ball movement, sharing, and a collective defensive focus, which led to numerous deflections, particularly in the first half. The Spurs’ offensive efficiency was evident, shooting 67% in the first quarter, while Portland struggled with a 22% shooting rate.

The teams are set to face each other again in Portland on Friday night.
