Some things are unthinkable – until they happen. That’s true in the NBA as well. You may think that your favorite team will never trade a certain player. Next thing you know, you’re watching him on another team.

For example, the Golden State Warriors’ big three were supposed to be together forever. We’ve watched Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green dominate the league for a decade. Surely, the Warriors couldn’t part with any of them, right?

Well, Green is serving an indefinite suspension. This isn’t the first time that his antics have forced him off the floor. Now, some are speculating that the Warriors could move Green.

Could they send him to the Los Angeles Lakers?

Los Angeles Lakers Receive: F/C Draymond Green

The Lakers’ LeBron James is familiar with the unthinkable. He’s made a name for himself by defying expectations. It’s something that James has done throughout his entire career.

Surely, he wouldn’t leave his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers, right? He did. James infamously took his talents to South Beach. He certainly couldn’t return to the Cavaliers, could he? Well…

Emotionally, this would be difficult. There’s no overlooking that component here. Green has been a staple in Golden State during the most successful era in the franchise’s history.

Still, there are reasons to move him as well. For starters, Green is a liability. That’s undeniable. Getting suspended has become a major part of his profile.

On the other hand, that’s never bothered the Warriors before. More than anything, his recent actions may provide an excuse for the Warriors to get him off of the roster.

After all, Green is on a long-term contract. He’s also 34 years old. The Warriors would be saving money by making this deal, and given how far they look from title contention in 2023-24, that might be a priority.

Should the Lakers take Green’s deal on?

Green may be problematic. Let’s talk about the positives associated with him. This is one of the best defenders in NBA history. Green is a cerebral player, even if his impulse control seems to be poor.

Who else is one of the most cerebral players in the NBA? LeBron James. The combined feel between these two could be difficult for the Lakers to pass on.

Moreover, the Lakers could deploy one of the switchiest defenses in the NBA by pairing Green with James, Anthony Davis, and Cam Reddish.

In other words, he’ll help bolster their title odds in 2023-24. Given his recent actions, the Lakers also exploit a buy-low opportunity here. It may feel unthinkable, but we wouldn’t rule it out.
