Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey has agreed on a contract extension through the 2027-28 season.

Morey’s deal is contractually aligned with Sixers head coach Nick Nurse.

“I want to express my appreciation to Josh Harris and David Blitzer for their unwavering support and confidence. Together, we are committed to bringing a championship to Philadelphia,” Morey said in a statement. “I love this franchise and the relationship my family and I have built with our fans and this city. There’s no place I’d rather continue this journey than here.”

Morey traded future Hall of Famer James Harden to the Los Angeles Clippers earlier this season. The Sixers are 16-7. They are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference standings.

“Daryl is one of the best front office executives in sports and I greatly value his leadership,” Josh Harris, Sixers Managing Partner, said. “I’m thrilled to have reached an agreement to extend his contract and look forward to working together to maximize our chances of competing for an NBA title.”

Morey’s .653 winning percentage through his first three seasons with the Sixers represents the best mark in franchise history. Philadelphia is led by Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, two of the best players in the NBA.

The Sixers haven’t gotten past the second round of the playoffs in the Embiid era, which began in 2014-15. It will be interesting to see how far Philadelphia goes in the 2024 postseason. Morey, who used to be very close with Harden, has developed a solid rapport with Embiid.
