Bleacher Report recently released a list of big names who could be traded. For the Houston Astros, Alex Bregman made the list.
It has been a shockingly poor start to the season for the Houston Astros. After nearly a decade of dominance in the American League, the window for the Astros might be starting to close. With the Seattle Mariners and Texas Rangers on the rise, the Astros are going to be battling in their own division with some talented teams.
With the Astros struggling this season, they could decide to do some retooling. Recently, Bleacher Report listed some big names who could be on the move. For the Astros, Alex Bregman made the list. Here’s what they had to say.
Not long ago, it would have been difficult to imagine Alex Bregman playing in another uniform.
The 30-year-old has played in seven consecutive ALCS for the Astros, which includes four World Series appearances and a pair of World Series titles.
Today, he is a marginal player who briefly lost his spot in the heart of Houston’s lineup earlier this season.
Bregman not being on the Astros does seem shocking considering the success that he has had and the big moments he has been a part of over the years. However, baseball is a business and Bregman is set to become a free agent at the end of the season.
Statistically, Bregman hasn’t been the player he once was it appears and the Houston Astros might be looking to move on. With the Astros well under .500 now, they might decide to move on from key pieces from their championship years like Bregman.
As an organization, moving players who are free agents that you don’t intend on re-signing is best for the franchise long-term. While some might miss Alex Bregman, he has accomplished a lot with the team and the time might have come to move on.
