The Golden State Warriors are entering a massive offseason. There could be some major changes to their roster, as the Big 3 era could be coming to an end. Another player who has been involved in some trade rumors is Andrew Wiggins.

Like many of his teammates, the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft struggled during the 2023-24 season. As a result, the Golden State Warriors have been exploring different ways to shake up their roster.

While Klay Thompson’s free agency is dominating headlines, he is far from the only player involved in rumors. Chris Paul could be traded or waived, and Andrew Wiggins could potentially be on the move as well.

Reportedly, that is part of the reason that the Golden State Warriors have barred him from competing in international competition this summer. Andrew Wiggins was set to play for Team Canada in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, but the team’s general manager, Rowan Barrett, said he is being blocked from competition.

“For us, Andrew was fine,” Barrett said. “We were talking to him consistently, he’s been training for weeks and weeks getting ready for this. And then I got a call from Golden State a day or two before camp saying that they’re holding him out.

“So, from what I see, this is not an Andrew decision, this is from the team. And so, he won’t be with us.”

According to the Associated Press, via ESPN, the decision for Andrew Wiggins to not play in Paris was a mutual one. Alas, Barrett and Team Canada don’t believe that to be the case, as they are under the impression the Golden State Warriors are barring him from playing.

“I’m disappointed for him,” Barrett said. “He’s gone through a lot the last couple of years and then, obviously, his mother was an Olympian and this is something he’s looking forward to and working toward and really on the uphill climb it seemed like in everything.”

Andrew Wiggins has two years remaining on his four-year, $109 million contract he signed. The final year of the contract is a player option, as he could be used as a trade chip by the Golden State Warriors to match salary.
