Cam Skattebo aims to move past a truncated debut season as he gears up for year two with the New York Giants. The former Arizona State standout displayed a hard-nosed approach on the ground before a significant lower-leg injury cut short his initial NFL campaign.

During that limited rookie stretch, Skattebo finished with 101 carries for 410 rushing yards and five touchdowns. He also contributed through the air, hauling in 24 passes for 207 yards and two more scores.

Under new head coach John Harbaugh, the Giants plan to lean heavily on Skattebo’s physical, downhill running approach in 2026. Team officials see the 23-year-old as a foundational piece of the rebuilt offense, joining quarterback Jaxson Dart and wide receiver Malik Nabers as key contributors.

Encouraging developments emerged Wednesday as the club started final preparations for the new year. General manager Joe Schoen reported that Skattebo is “good to go” for the first practice of training camp.

The confirmation represents another positive step in the running back’s lengthy rehabilitation process. It also builds on Schoen’s previous offseason comments expressing confidence that Skattebo would return to full strength in time for organized team activities.

The positive update arrives not long after a brief moment of concern at Fanatics Fest on July 18. Skattebo came down awkwardly while trying a backflip, prompting immediate questions about his status.

He quickly reassured supporters that he had escaped injury and remained on track for training camp.

Schoen addressed the incident with reporters on Wednesday, noting, “He knows we’d rather him not do that.”

Skattebo’s ability to stay healthy will prove critical as the Giants look to establish a more physical identity under Harbaugh. His combination of power between the tackles and reliable hands out of the backfield gives the offense a versatile option in multiple situations.

Coaches and front-office personnel have pointed to the running back’s work ethic throughout the recovery period as a reason for their optimism. Months of focused rehabilitation appear to have positioned him well for the grind of a full NFL season.

The Giants will open their 2026 schedule against the Dallas Cowboys at MetLife Stadium on Sept. 13. That contest will mark the first opportunity for Skattebo to show how far he has come since the injury that ended his rookie year early.

With the start of training camp now imminent, attention turns to how Skattebo handles the increased workload and contact of practices. His presence in the backfield is expected to complement the emerging talents of Dart and Nabers as New York seeks greater balance on offense.

Team sources have described the running back’s progress as steady and encouraging in recent weeks. The latest clearance from Schoen removes one of the final remaining questions surrounding Skattebo’s readiness ahead of the new campaign.
