San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy put together a strong effort in his team’s win over the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night, going 18-for-28 with 255 yards and three touchdowns in the 49ers’ 36-24 victory.
Purdy looked particularly focused against the Seahawks and was throwing some lasers, and during the game, former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel revealed what is so different about Purdy this season.
So, basically, Purdy, who has been labeled as a “game manager” by many, has been taking more chances, and it is resulting in more explosive plays.
On the season overall, the 24-year-old has thrown for 1,629 yards, nine touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 65.4 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 100.5.
Now in his third NFL season, Purdy has a lot to prove.
The Iowa State product, who was selected by the 49ers with the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, was thrust into starting duty during his rookie campaign after season-ending injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo. He ended up leading San Francisco to the NFC Championship Game that season, although he threw just four passes in the game before injuring his elbow.
Then, last year, Purdy led the Niners to a Super Bowl appearance after totaling 4,280 yards, 31 touchdowns and 11 picks while completing 69.4 percent of his throws and registering a league-high 113 passer rating over the course of a full season.
Even after achieving all of that, Purdy has his fair share of doubters, which is why he needs to truly have a huge year in 2024.
He has run into some struggles early on, but he certainly bounced back on Thursday evening. We’ll see if Brock Purdy and the 49ers can continue to build steam as they get set to host the Kansas City Chiefs in a Super Bowl rematch in Week 8.
