President Donald Trump even has Republicans aggravated with his latest move.
Professional traders may soon gain an even bigger advantage in the financial markets by paying for faster access to Trump’s posts on Truth Social. Trump Media & Technology Group is introducing a premium data service designed for institutional investors and high-frequency trading firms that rely on speed to capitalize on market-moving news.
The new service, known as the Truth API, will provide machine-readable access to posts from the platform’s highest-profile accounts, including President Trump. According to reports, subscription costs could reach as much as $100,000 per month, with discounts available for long-term contracts. The company says the feed delivers posts the moment they become public rather than giving subscribers advance access.
Even Republicans are not exactly happy with Trump’s direction.
“I think that’s wrong. It’s a form of buying access,” said Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-La.).
Cassidy was far from the only GOP member who wasn’t entirely thrilled with Trump attempting to charge for Truth Social posts.
“Think it through. You are talking about the ability to move markets when you’re advancing information,” said Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska). “This is where we’re getting $100,000 for you to buy your visa to be a teacher in a place like Alaska. We don’t really want to be that place where everything comes down to pay for play,” she said.
Murkowski didn’t stop there, claiming that Trump may be using this as a ploy to increase his own wealth.
“The president is the president of the United States and not in a position to use the position to enhance your own personal wealth. I hope he’s not thinking about that,” she added.
Trump’s social media activity has repeatedly influenced financial markets. His comments on tariffs, foreign policy, energy, and individual companies have often triggered rapid swings in stock prices, oil markets, and investor sentiment. As a result, hedge funds and algorithmic trading firms closely monitor his posts, using automated systems that can interpret news and execute trades within fractions of a second. For high-frequency trading firms, even tiny speed advantages can translate into significant profits. These firms already invest heavily in technology that minimizes delays in receiving market information. A faster direct feed from Truth Social could allow them to react milliseconds ahead of competitors, giving them another edge in highly competitive markets.
The announcement has also sparked debate over fairness and market transparency. Critics argue that charging institutional investors for faster access to information connected to a sitting president could create an uneven playing field between large financial firms and ordinary investors. Some lawmakers have questioned whether the arrangement could undermine confidence in financial markets by giving wealthy firms privileged technological advantages.
Trump Media has defended the service, stating that all users will see posts at the same time and that the API simply delivers public information in a format better suited for automated systems. Supporters note that similar premium data services already exist across the financial industry, where firms routinely pay for faster access to market data and news feeds.
Whether the Truth API becomes a standard tool on Wall Street remains to be seen. However, its introduction highlights the growing role of social media in financial markets and the increasing value firms place on receiving information as quickly as possible. As technology continues to reshape investing, speed remains one of the most valuable assets in modern trading.
