The Dallas Cowboys have parted ways with veteran offensive lineman Nick Leverett, making another roster move as the team continues its push through a rough start to the 2026 NFL season, via the NFL transaction wire.
Dallas waived Leverett on Monday, ending his latest stint with the organization after he appeared in all five of the Cowboys’ games to begin the regular season.
The six-year NFL veteran contributed primarily on special teams during that stretch, providing depth and experience to the roster.
Leverett originally joined the Cowboys’ practice squad in November 2025 before earning a promotion to the active roster in September 2026.
His release opens a spot on Dallas’ 53-man roster, giving the team additional flexibility to address its needs in the coming weeks.
The move also raises questions about the Cowboys’ offensive line depth as the season progresses. Experienced linemen can be valuable assets over a long NFL campaign, particularly when injuries force teams to adjust their starting combinations and reserve options.
Leverett, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent, has spent time with several organizations during his professional career. He previously played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals before his time in Dallas.
Across his NFL career, he has appeared in 28 games, demonstrating his ability to provide experienced depth across the offensive line.
During his tenure with Tampa Bay, Leverett saw some of his most significant playing time, including a 2022 season in which he appeared in 11 games and made 10 starts. That experience helped establish him as a veteran option capable of stepping into a larger role when needed.
For Dallas, the decision appears to be a roster-management move rather than a reflection of a major on-field role. Leverett did not start a game during his five appearances this season, and his contributions came primarily on special teams.
The Cowboys now have an opportunity to use the open roster spot to add another player, promote someone from the practice squad or make another adjustment based on the team’s immediate needs.
Leverett could also remain an option for Dallas if he clears waivers and the organization chooses to bring him back to its practice squad.
At this stage of the season, roster flexibility remains important for a Cowboys team navigating a competitive schedule. Although Leverett’s departure may not generate major headlines, losing a six-year NFL veteran removes another experienced option from the team’s depth chart.
Whether Dallas makes an immediate addition to replace him or uses the opening for another position remains to be seen. For Leverett, the move marks another transition in a career that has taken him across multiple NFL franchises.
The Cowboys will look to bounce back from a brutal Week 5 loss to the Buccaneers when they face the Green Bay Packers next Sunday.
