The Cleveland Browns are actively seeking depth at the wide receiver position to complement Amari Cooper. CBS Sports’ Cody Benjamin has highlighted a potentially exciting candidate for the team: Buffalo Bills wide receiver Gabe Davis.
Gabe Davis is set to become a free agent this spring, with no clear indication that the Bills will retain him. The 24-year-old’s 2023 season was noteworthy, with him participating in every game and securing 45 receptions for 746 yards and seven touchdowns.
Davis, who played college football at the University of Central Florida, was drafted by Buffalo in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He made an impactful debut season, registering 35 catches for 599 yards and seven touchdowns. His sophomore year mirrored those numbers, with 35 receptions for 549 yards and six touchdowns.
However, it was in 2022 that Davis truly made his mark, posting impressive statistics of 48 receptions for 836 yards and seven touchdowns while showcasing his ability as a dynamic deep threat.
While Davis may not fit the mold of a primary No. 1 receiver, his blend of size, speed, and athleticism positions him as a legitimate deep threat.
Currently, the Browns rely on Elijah Moore as their second receiver alongside Cooper. While Moore has been dependable in Cleveland, the team is looking to upgrade, and Gabe Davis could provide that improvement.
The Browns must address their salary cap situation before pursuing significant free agents this spring. Despite finishing the 2023 season with an 11-6 record, the team faced an early playoff exit with a loss to the Houston Texans in the Wild Card Round.
