As the Clemson Tigers wrap up a challenging 2025 campaign with a 22-10 defeat to Penn State in the Pinstripe Bowl, attention quickly turns to significant changes in the wide receiver room. Antonio Williams, a standout performer over multiple seasons, has officially declared for the 2026 NFL Draft, paving the way for sophomore T.J. Moore to step into the spotlight as the primary target next year.

This transition isn’t necessarily a downgrade for the Tigers.

Moore delivered an outstanding performance throughout 2025, recording 46 receptions for 754 yards and four touchdowns before the bowl matchup against the Nittany Lions. In that game at Yankee Stadium, the talented 6-foot-3 receiver continued to impress, finishing with six catches for 83 yards, including a notable 44-yard gain.

Supporters of Clemson have grown immensely fond of Moore, expressing strong desires on various platforms for the program to secure his commitment long-term, especially with whispers circulating about potential interest from other schools through the transfer portal. Numerous messages from the fanbase have called for the coaching staff to offer substantial incentives to keep him in orange and purple.

One such sentiment reflected the enthusiasm, with calls for Clemson to provide Moore a “blank check,” a reaction that’s entirely understandable given his rising star status.

Recruited as a highly touted five-star prospect, Moore has rapidly emerged as one of the premier wideouts nationwide. He demonstrated his capabilities right away in his 2024 freshman year, amassing 45 catches for 651 yards and five touchdowns.

Coming into 2025, Moore was positioned as the secondary receiver option behind Williams, who had enjoyed a strong previous season. However, many observers believe Moore surpassed expectations and solidified his role as the undisputed top receiver for the Tigers.

The critical issue now is whether Clemson can successfully keep him on the roster should competing programs express serious interest.

Although Clemson remains a prestigious football powerhouse, it no longer holds the dominant position it enjoyed roughly half a decade ago. Recent years have seen a decline in overall performance, influenced heavily by the evolving landscape of name, image, and likeness deals.

For evidence, consider that the Tigers ended the 2025 regular season with a 7-5 record, representing their poorest outcome since head coach Dabo Swinney’s initial full year leading the team in 2010.

Furthermore, Clemson has experienced three consecutive years with at least four defeats, a stark contrast to the decade from 2012 to 2022, during which the program never suffered four losses in a single season.

With quarterback Cade Klubnik also expected to depart for the professional ranks following the spring draft, retaining Moore becomes even more vital for stability at the skill positions, particularly for the incoming signal-caller in 2026.

It remains to be seen if Swinney and his staff will prioritize all available resources to ensure Moore remains a cornerstone of the offense moving forward.
