The Kansas City Chiefs have joined the list of teams showing interest in acquiring Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. before the NFL trade deadline.
Multiple clubs are pursuing the 2024 first-round pick, with the Chiefs, Pittsburgh Steelers and Washington Commanders currently linked to him, according to a report.
For Kansas City, the interest makes sense as the club looks to bolster its receiving group for quarterback Patrick Mahomes amid ongoing needs at the position.
Thomas, selected 23rd overall out of LSU, produced a strong rookie campaign in 2024 with 87 receptions for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns.
His output fell in 2025 to 48 catches for 707 yards and two scores as he struggled to find consistent production.
This season has been even more limited. Through recent games, Thomas has 10 receptions for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
In Sunday’s 42-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts, he was targeted twice and caught one pass for 12 yards and a touchdown.
The Chiefs view him as a potential primary target who could provide size, speed and a vertical threat in Andy Reid’s offense.
Kansas City’s wide receiver room has been thinned by injuries, including to Rashee Rice and Tyquan Thornton, leaving the club searching for reinforcements ahead of the Nov. 10 deadline.
If the Chiefs cannot land Thomas, Indianapolis Colts receiver Josh Downs is viewed as their Plan B option.
The Steelers are said to have greater interest in Downs, while the Commanders appear more focused on a longer-term addition for 2027 and beyond.
Jacksonville has little incentive to move Thomas unless it receives a significant offer, as the team’s asking price does not fully align with his current reduced role.
Trading him also carries risk for the Jaguars. If Jakobi Meyers or Parker Washington were to get injured, the club could regret the move.
The Chiefs have a history of adding receiving help around the deadline and have been calling around the league in search of a fit for Mahomes.
Thomas’ combination of youth, proven deep-ball ability and prior Pro Bowl production makes him an appealing target for a contending team looking to upgrade its offense.
Any deal would need to balance the Jaguars’ valuation against the Chiefs’ need for immediate and future help at wide receiver.
With the deadline approaching, Kansas City remains active in evaluating options to strengthen the passing attack.
