Chicago Sky’s Angel Reese Makes WNBA History vs. Dallas Wings

Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese has been adamant that there is more than one player worth watching in the WNBA. While her rivalry with Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark garners headlines, she wants her play to get some attention too.

After Thursday’s game against the Dallas Wings, she should start to get some. Angel Reese helped lead the Chicago Sky to an 83-72 victory, their fifth of the season. In the game, she scored 16 points with a career-high 18 rebounds.

That double-double ended up putting Angel Reese in the record books. It was her seventh double-double in a row, which is the longest streak for a rookie in WNBA history. Thursday’s performance broke a tie with Tina Charles and Cindy Brown, who had six.

“It’s super exciting for myself,” Reese told ESPN during her postgame interview. “I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”

The longest streak for any player in WNBA history recording a double-double is 12. It was set by Candace Parker during the 2009-2010 seasons when she was playing for the Los Angeles Sparks.

To this point, Angel Reese has been a monster on the boards for the Chicago Sky. She is averaging 10.8 rebounds per game, which is second in the league behind only MVP favorite, A’ja Wilson of the Las Vegas Aces, who is averaging 11.3.

“I mean, obviously I just want to do whatever it takes to win, and rebounding is what I do to win,” Reese said.

The future looks very bright for the Chicago Sky on the interior. Along with Angel Reese, who was the No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft, the team selected center Kamilla Cardoso at No. 3.

There isn’t a team in the WNBA who has two young foundational pieces like that in their frontcourt to build around. They are currently fourth in the WNBA in rebounds per game, and it would not be surprising to see them move up with Cardoso continuing to round into form after missing the early part of the season with an injury.
