The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the teams with the most interest in signing LeBron James in NBA free agency. Throughout the process, they have also been viewed as a potential front-runner to land him.
However, there are quite a few other teams with interest as well.
Among the most likely potential suitors are the Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers. Those teams, along with the Cavaliers, have been talked about the most throughout James’ free agency process.
No one knows when James will make his decision. But, it’s clear that Cleveland fans do not want to see “The King” choose to takes his talents to the Warriors.
Of course, the Cavaliers and Golden State have a rivalry dating back to James’ last tenure in Cleveland. The two teams fought in the NBA Finals and there isn’t much love from the Cavaliers’ fan base for the Warriors.
Keeping that in mind, some fans have commented on social media with warnings to James about potentially choosing Golden State over Cleveland.
“Bron, please don’t do it. Going to the Warriors after everything? That’s not legacy, that’s joining the superteam that ruined the league. Come back to Cleveland where it actually means something. We built this without you once—imagine what we do together. Don’t chase rings in the Bay,” one fan commented.
Another said, “If LeBron signs with the Warriors I’m officially done with the NBA. After leaving us twice, you really gonna put on that blue and yellow? They don’t need you, they need another star to carry their declining core. Stay home or go anywhere else, just not there. We warned you.”
“LeBron to Warriors rumors got me screaming. Bro you already have 4 rings, you don’t need to be Steph’s third splash brother at 41. Cleveland is waiting with open arms and no Draymond drama. Don’t become the villain who joins the team that ended our 2016 miracle. Choose wisely King,” a third comment read.
A fourth fan chimed in, “LeBron, as a dad I’m begging you—don’t go to Golden State. My kids grew up watching you beat the Warriors for us in ‘16. Joining them now would crush that memory. Come home to the Cavs instead. Teach the young guys how to finish what you started. The Bay is not where your story belongs.”
“Logically, LeBron to the Warriors makes no sense. Their window is closing, their chemistry is shaky, and you’d just be another aging vet propping them up. Cleveland has the pieces and the motivation. Don’t ruin the homecoming narrative by chasing one last ride with the team we all hated. We warned you, Bron,” yet another comment said.
Only time will tell what James chooses to do. Signing with the Warriors over Cleveland would make many Cavaliers fans very unhappy.
The other side of the coin is that signing with Cleveland would give James a chance to end his career where it started. He could potentially head out into the sunset of retirement after bringing another championship home for the Cavaliers. Now that would be a storybook ending.
