Buffalo Bills Urged To Make One Move Before Training Camp

The Buffalo Bills roster underwent some major changes this offseason. Wide receiver Gabe Davis left in free agency and they traded wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans. Some people would say they need more weapons around Josh Allen, but this is a solid roster overall.

The Buffalo Bills should once again compete for the AFC East title and be a fixture in the playoff picture. So what should they be focusing on ahead of training camp at the end of July? In the opinion of Aaron Schatz of ESPN, it is signing defensive end Gregory Rousseau to an extension.

“The Bills’ roster doesn’t have many clear holes, so it’s time to lock up some players in their primes. Rousseau is an important part of the Bills’ pass rush, with five sacks and 34 pressures last season. He is excellent against the run, ranking ninth among edge rushers in average yards per run tackle,” Schatz wrote.

A first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Miami (FL), Rousseau has been a mainstay in the Buffalo Bills’ lineup his first three seasons in the NFL. He has started all 46 games he has played in, providing production in every facet of the game.

As Schatz noted, the former Hurricane standout makes his presence felt as a pass rusher and run defender. Last season, he recorded 5.0 sacks and set career highs with 12 tackles for loss and 18 quarterback hits.

He is the kind of player that you want to commit to long-term and lock in for the future. Just 24 years old, he is scratching the surface of his potential, as he can reach another level.

Expect the Buffalo Bills to continue expanding his role on defense as well. Last season he played a career-high 585 snaps, but it was only 60 percent of the team’s plays on defense.

If that pushes closer to 70-75 percent, he could have his first double-digit sack season of his career. It would be smart for the organization to get a deal done this summer, as a big 2024 would only increase his price tag.
