Two of the Buffalo Bills’ top wide receivers were held out of Thursday’s practice as the team prepared for its Week 3 home game against the Los Angeles Chargers.

Reporters on site said neither DJ Moore nor Keon Coleman took part in the session. Moore is dealing with a shoulder injury. Coleman is listed with an ankle issue.

Moore had been limited Wednesday after spraining his AC joint in last week’s win over Detroit. He wore a non-contact jersey during that workout. Coleman did not practice at all Wednesday.

Moore finished Week 1 with five catches for 100 yards and a touchdown against Houston. He left the Lions game early after just 23 snaps and recorded no receptions.

Coleman caught all six of his targets for 63 yards in Week 2 after playing a larger role once Moore exited. He briefly left that contest with the ankle problem but returned and finished the game.

The Bills are 2-0 and sit atop the AFC East. They host the 0-2 Chargers on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.

Defensive tackle Ed Oliver, who sat out Wednesday with a hip injury, returned Thursday and took part in individual drills. Oliver had been a surprise inactive for the Lions game after experiencing hip spasms during warmups.

The team’s official Thursday injury report had not been released by midday. Ten players appeared on Wednesday’s list, the longest of the season for Buffalo so far.

Linebacker Terrel Bernard (knee) and outside linebacker Bradley Chubb (thumb) were full participants Wednesday. Running back Ty Johnson (hamstring) also practiced fully after missing the first two games.

Defensive tackle T.J. Sanders did not practice Wednesday after undergoing an appendectomy Tuesday. He has yet to play this season after also dealing with a knee injury.

Buffalo signed veteran defensive tackle Austin Johnson to the practice squad Wednesday to add depth on the interior line.

Moore, 29, has not missed a start since December 2020. He joined the Bills this offseason as a key free agent addition after years with the Chicago Bears and Carolina Panthers.

The shoulder injury occurred when Moore landed hard attempting a diving catch against Detroit. He later said the shoulder felt better two days after the game.

Coleman’s ankle issue surfaced when he got tangled with a defender on a route in the same game. He still led Bills wide receivers with 55 snaps that night.

If both receivers remain limited or sit Sunday, Khalil Shakir and Joshua Palmer would likely see increased targets from quarterback Josh Allen. Tight end Dalton Kincaid would also factor more heavily in the passing game.

The Chargers entered the week with an even longer injury list of 14 players. Buffalo’s defense will look to pressure Los Angeles quarterback Justin Herbert without a fully healthy interior line.

Practice observations Thursday offered mixed signals. Moore and Coleman’s absence at the start of the session raised questions about their availability, even as Oliver’s return provided a positive note on the defensive side.

The Bills have extra rest after playing Thursday night last week. That extra time could help Moore and Coleman progress before Sunday’s kickoff.

Final injury designations are expected Friday. Those listings will give a clearer picture of who is expected to play against the Chargers.
