The Boston Celtics have gotten off to a strong 2-0 start in the 2024 NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. A big reason for their success in the early going has been the return of Kristaps Porzingis to the lineup.

Kristaps Porzingis was injured in the first round against the Miami Heat and was sidelined for more than five weeks. The Boston Celtics didn’t miss him too much, as they steamrolled the Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers and Indiana Pacers.

But, there is a chance that they could now be without him again. On Tuesday, it was revealed that Kristaps Porzingis is dealing with a rare injury to his knee. He is now being listed as day-to-day by the team after tearing the medial retinaculum allowing a dislocation of the posterior tibialis tendon, per Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium.

Kristaps Porzingis missed 10 games because of a calf strain already this postseason. The new injury isn’t connected to that, as they are unrelated. In Game 2 on Sunday night, he was originally injured in the third quarter.

He has said that he will be in the lineup for Game 3 on Wednesday night, but this could certainly impact his availability. If you are unaware of what kind of injury it is that Kristaps Porzinigs has suffered, you are not alone. But, Sports Medicine Doctor Brian Sutterer MD explained it on X.

Based on that assessment, it certainly sounds as if some serious damage could be done if Kristaps Porzingis plays on the injury. It will be something worth keeping an eye on, as his availability, or lack thereof, could certainly change the tide of the series for the Boston Celtics.

In two games, both of which he has come off the bench, Porzingis has averaged 16 points and five rebounds per game. His presence on the court has made things difficult for the Mavericks, as he pulls their big men away from the basket, making them vulnerable defensively.
