The San Francisco 49ers’ roster has been absolutely decimated this offseason, as financial constraints have prevented the 49ers from being able to keep all of their own players any longer.

San Francisco has lost a plethora of impactful players on both sides of the ball. It had to trade Deebo Samuel. It saw stars like Charvarius Ward, Talanoa Hufanga and Aaron Banks all walk. Leonard Floyd was released.

It hasn’t been an easy month in the Bay, but it comes with the territory when you have roster stacked with talent for many years. Eventually, the salary cap issues become too much to bear.

But what does this mean for Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan?

Peter Panacy of Niner Noise has revealed a rather harsh reality for Shanahan, noting that the 49ers’ mass exodus of talent this offseason is an indication that Shanahan may be losing some pull within the organization.

“Shanahan’s loss on this list is less about his now-depleted roster. If anything, the partial teardown is a win for him because it shows faith from York and the front office in the head coach’s ability to usher in a new era,” Panacy wrote. “However, in terms of power, it’s evident Shanahan lost a lot of it to kick off 2025.”

Panacy supplemented his point by noting that Shanahan had previously been able to step in and halt the 49ers from jettisoning star players, like last year when he stopped Brandon Aiyuk from being dealt.

But following a 6-11 campaign, there probably really is only so much Shanahan can do, and while he isn’t exactly on the hot seat yet, the temperature may have been turned up just a tad.
