Pittsburgh Pirates Set to Call Up Top Prospect Paul Skenes

With the first overall pick in the 2023 MLB Amateur Draft, the Pittsburgh Pirates selected LSU star pitcher, Paul Skenes. Upon being selected, he became one of the highest-rated prospects in the game, as the Pirates are hoping that he can become the ace and anchor of their staff for years to come.

Fans and analysts alike have been patiently waiting for him to get the call up and that day has finally come. On Wednesday, following their 5-4 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, it was announced that the Pittsburgh Pirates are promoting Paul Skenes to the major leagues.

The team’s nine-game homestand concludes with a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs over the weekend. You can be sure a big crowd will be present on Saturday afternoon, as that will be when Paul Skenes is scheduled to make his major league debut.

It was only a matter of time until this move was made as Paul Skenes has been dominant at Triple-A Indianapolis. He has made seven starts and pitched 27.1 innings and has been virtually unhittable.

The LSU star has registered an ERA of 1.32 and WHIP of 0.915, allowing only 17 hits and eight walks compared to an eye-popping 45 strikeouts. He has surrendered only four runs, three earned, and has given up only one home run as a professional.

This is an exciting time for the Pittsburgh Pirates and their fans, as Paul Skenes should provide the club with a jolt. Any time a top prospect makes their major league debut, there is a buzz around the team and this will be no different as he is one of the best prospects in the game.

He will be joining Jared Jones, who is in the midst of a record-setting rookie season himself, atop the team’s rotation. Along with Mitch Keller, who is coming off a complete game in which he allowed only one run, the Pittsburgh Pirates rotation looks to be in good hands for years to come.
