Philadelphia Eagles Agree To Massive Extension With Offensive Star

The Philadelphia Eagles have been busy revamping and upgrading the offensive weapons around quarterback Jalen Hurts during the 2024 NFL offseason. The biggest splash that was made was the signing of running back Saquon Barkley.

Barkley is leaving the New York Giants after six seasons with the franchise to join the Eagles. His teammate last season, wide receiver Parris Campbell, is also heading to the City of Brotherly Love. Wide receiver DeVante Parker was also signed away from the Miami Dolphins.

Those additions will bolster not only the starting lineup in Philadelphia but the depth of the team. In recent seasons, the Eagles were overly reliant on wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith with not much else behind them.

That has resulted in some gaudy numbers for those two players, which has led to them earning some nice paychecks. For Smith, he has turned his production early in his career into a massive contract extension.

As shared by Tim McManus of ESPN, Smith and the Eagles have agreed to an extension that will keep him under contract through 2028. While details of the deal were not revealed, McManus shared, via ESPN insider Adam Schefter, that the contract is worth $75 million with $51 million guaranteed.

The fifth-year option on Smith’s rookie contract has also been exercised by the team. That means he will earn about $16 million in 2025 before the extension he agreed to even kicks in.

This is a massive extension for Smith, who is now the fifth wide receiver in the NFL with a yearly value of at least $25 million. His teammate, Brown, is one of the other four along with Tyreek Hill, Davante Adams and Cooper Kupp. That group is going to grow sooner rather than later with Justin Jefferson, Ja’Marr Chase and Jaylen Waddle all due for extensions soon.

In 50 career games, Smith has caught 240 passes for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns. He set several Eagles franchise records as a rookie and looks the part of a No. 1 receiver in the NFL. It is quite a luxury for Philadelphia to have two receivers as talented as Brown and Smith for Hurts to get the ball to.
